What We're Reading
It's summertime and that means it's vacation reading time! Grab your favorite book and enjoy a frosty cold beverage by the pool, at the beach, or on your patio. This month, we're putting aside our corporate or business-minded books because our team is out exploring on their own vacations and enjoying their personal reading books. We'll pick back up on business-minded books later in the summer.
This month, Megan is in Texas visiting friends who are always suggesting books for her to read. But on this trip, it was the title of the book that immediately pulled her in. Her friend Brooke was still actively reading when Megan decided she was now reading the book as her vacation reading and took the book away from her friend. Megan is about halfway through and she can't put it down - so this book To Wake the Giant: A Novel of Pearl Harbor by Jeff Shaara comes highly recommended so far.
James, as always, is reading multiple books. So far this year, there hasn't been a single month in which James reads just one book at a time. Till We Have Faces: A Myth Retold by C.S. Lewis, James says, is Lewis’ greatest work of fiction and psychology. He Leadeth Me by Fr. Walter Ciszeck is a stranger-than-fiction true story of a heroic priest. He's also reading the classic Life of Christ by Fulton J. Sheen. James says that so far, he's enjoying all 3 of the books and recommends them, but does warn that Till We Have Faces takes brainpower, especially the middle third, but it’s a piece of great literature.
How Book Club Began
Our founder, Lance Johnson, set a goal for 2021. He's going to read at least 1 book per week this year. But, he's not limiting himself to just 52 books. In fact, he's already read 43 books, and it's only the beginning of March. Lance's book list includes new books, books that are tried and true and worth reading over and over, and books related to business development. "I read a mix of paper, e-book, and audiobook...just depends on what's available when I'm ready to move on," Lance shares.
This goal has inspired the rest of the Green Egg Media team to kick our reading habits up a notch and we want to invite you to join us. We're excited to launch Book Club with Green Egg Media. While we can't cozy up in our local coffee shop with our favorite latte and discuss the reading, we invite you to grab your favorite mug filled with your favorite coffee blend from a local roaster (or tea, if you're not into the coffee scene), sit in your favorite chair, and join us for Book Club. We'll share what our team is reading for the month and we encourage you to read with us, but we want to hear from you, too.
We hope to create community connections that go beyond transactional business. Yes, we will suggest business-focused books, but we will also share our personal reading lists, books our children are reading, and we want to know what books you're excited to recommend, too. Follow our social media accounts to join in the conversation.
